Changes to SentriLock’s One-Day Codes

SentriLock has announced that starting April 1st, 2024 they will no longer allow third-party scheduling services like BrokerBay or ShowingTime to generate “One Day Codes.” You can still schedule an appointment with BrokerBay and ShowingTime and get access to the lockbox if you have the SentriConnect or SentriKey app. The IRES Showings System will retain the ability to generate 1-day codes.

How it’ll work

Upon a successful confirmation of the appointment, an email will be sent to you from the showing service alerting you to:

  1. Make sure you have downloaded and are using the appropriate Sentrilock app
  2. Sentrilock subscribers should use the SentriKey app. It has full functionality and requires the regular Sentrilock subscription of $9.95 plus tax per month.
  3. Those who choose not to subscribe to Sentrilock services should use the SentriConnect app. This free app will allow you to open boxes for scheduling purposes (only).
  4. You will then receive an alert that you have been granted access in the app at your appointment time. SentriConnect app users will also receive a push notification

Things to know

This will NOT impact IRES showings. You will still be able to use the One Day Codes Generator in IRES showings as before. The change only impacts third-party showing services like BrokerBay and ShowingTime.

Subscribers that have inactive SentriKey accounts will still be able to register their phone numbers with the SentriConnect app.

Some Subscribers have expressed concerns regarding cell phone signals in certain areas of the IRES MLS footprint. Thankfully, Sentrilock has created a solution with the introduction of MAC (mobile access codes):

  • If a Subscriber is unable to open the box using the app, they will be given a MAC code after 30 seconds to type in which will open the box.
  • MACs are generated from the SentriKey app when an agent has valid credentials, and the app cannot establish an appropriate connection to the lockbox to open the key compartment.
  • MACs can be generated on both Bluetooth-enabled (BLE) and non-Bluetooth-enabled lockboxes; however, they are generated through the app from an automated process and cannot be generated on command or ahead of time like other access codes.

  1. Will agents that don’t use sertilock or want to sign up for a monthy fee of $9.00 to get the use of a Sentrikey app be able to show their clients properties that have a sentrilock on the door?

  2. This app better work super well because showing time already has a great app. If this is clunky, you are gonna get crucified. PLEASE MAKE SURE THIS IS A BETTER OPTION THAN WE ALREADY HAVE.

    1. Hi Mitch, thank you for reaching out.

This decision was made by Sentrilock and we understand that this is disruptive to users. IRES has actively reached out to Sentrilock to find solutions. We are grateful they agreed to allow IRES to continue to issue One Day Codes as a workaround. Both Sentrilock apps are available now. We are encouraging brokers to use them so they can get used to the functionality before Sentrilock turns off the ability for third party showing providers to issue One Day Codes. Please see this video or document to learn more about issuing One Day Codes on IRESis or the Sentrilock app.

  3. this is sounding complicated.
If we set showings thru Showing Time on-line in Ires then a one day code will no longer be issued?
    Then What.

    1. Hello David-

Thank you for reaching out. Due to decisions made by SentriLock in an effort to enhance security measures, one-day codes will no longer be issued through any 3rd party showings sites including ShowingTime. We recognize that this is disruptive to users, and that is why we are being proactive about finding solutions and processes that will make the transition a little easier. One-day codes will need to be issued either through IRES or the SentriLock apps mentioned in the article. For more resources on how to do this, please see below:

  4. This is a really poor decision by Sentrilock and will only complicate showings on our listings by agents that don’t pay Sentrilock. Sure there is a “way”, but it requires extra steps and extra hassle for all involved – this is a big step backward from ease of use and convenience standpoints.

  5. So if an agent is not a member of a board and needs a one day code how would that affect them? Would agents now need to join a board to have access to generating one day codes? So correct me if I am wrong, the new update is you can no longer schedule a showing through (showingtime, broker bay, etc.) 3rd party showing services and them send you a one day code after scheduling that showing. I assume you schedule it still but then you get into the sentriconnect or sentrikey app and generate one yourself or request a one day code with the listing agent of the home? How does this all work could you explain more for me? I work for an association and have agents going a little crazy on what they need to do and we have not been able to give them an explanation on what to exactly do.

    1. Great questions, there has been a lot more information since this blog was posted last summer and hopefully this clarifies some things! The difference is only on who can generate codes or give SentriConnect app access. 3rd Party vendors (such as ShowingTime, Broker Bay, etc.) can no longer generate codes or give access. The change should not affect how a Board or Association of REALTORS® is affiliated with SentriLock or the role they play. The process should stay the same for showing agents, they schedule a showing, receive access from the listing side by a code or SentriConnect app (SentriKey Real Estate app if they subscribe to SentriLock’s service automatically gives access without any granting necessary from the listing agent), and access the property at the time/date they scheduled for. The listing agent (or admin in the listing office if that is how the office operates), will now be the ones to give access via codes or SentriConnect app. Listing agents can create codes or grant SentriConnect app access within SentriLock’s website and the SentriKey Real Estate app, while listing office admin will need to do so through SentriLock’s website. Additionally, a listing agent or listing office admin who are subscribers to IRES MLS, can generate codes within IRES.
