Strategic Planning, Pre-Market Listings
IRES leadership recently wrapped up a multi-day strategic planning workshop where, among other things, we discussed whether current policies are still serving the MLS, the market and our customers. We’re consistently working to modernize our software, systems and data distribution methods, and we’re also reevaluating practices that may no longer serve a modern marketplace in an effort to create more customer-focused best practices.
IRES MLS: A Shared Resource
As we navigate these industry shifts, I want to convey one thought: The MLS has always functioned as a shared resource. When everyone contributes — by bringing listings into the system and participating fully — we all benefit from greater visibility, stronger competition and better outcomes for clients. But when participation fragments, the value of that shared system begins to erode. In many ways, it’s like tending to a community garden. The harvest is strongest when everyone contributes. When we prioritize siloing over collective benefit, the system that supports us all becomes less effective.
Pre-Market Listings
As national conversations around pre-market listings and private networks continue, we remain committed to protecting the value of the MLS while evolving it to better serve you. We continue to recognize that you, the participants in our marketplace, find value in what the MLS has to offer, no matter the noise and the headlines.
We should all be keenly aware that the policies that govern listing distribution today were created decades ago. It is natural and healthy to debate how they should evolve to serve a rapidly advancing mix of communication channels, technology and seller/buyer needs.
At IRES, we’re paying close attention to these developments and conversations. We know the landscape is changing and our role is to ensure the MLS continues to deliver value in a way that reflects how brokers want to do business today while championing transparency and access to the widest market for the benefit of both buyers and sellers alike.
