Jeff’s Corner: Spotlight on the Board of Managers

I thought it might be helpful to share a bit more information about an essential part of IRES, the Board of Managers. The Board of Managers is responsible for the vision, direction and financial oversight of IRES. From guiding policies to ensuring we have leading technology and integration, the board is focused on providing a reliable and frictionless experience for subscribers.

I’m providing more information on the Board of Managers so subscribers can better understand how decisions get made at IRES and to give those interested in helping shape the future of IRES a sneak peek at what that might entail.

About the Board of Managers

The Board of Managers consists of 13 members from our four owner associations: Boulder/Longmont, Fort Collins, Greeley Area and Loveland/Berthoud. Managers meet monthly to discuss evolving industry concerns or lawsuits, weigh in on how to implement NAR policies in an increasingly complex environment, help navigate shifts in the competitive landscape, and ensure we’re investing in new technology. The Board typically stays at the 30,000-foot level while IRES staff, including me and Julie, run the day-to-day operations.

Each Manager has the opportunity to travel to one MLS event per year. Most managers choose to attend the annual Council of Multiple Listing Services, where staff and leaders of the top 200 MLSs in the U.S. and Canada gather to exchange ideas and share insights.

Career Advancement Opportunities

Becoming a Board Member can be a great opportunity to advance your career. It gives you a front row seat to the most up to date industry happenings, expert legal analysis and insights into new technological advancements.

Chris Hardy, Owner/Partner at Elevations Real Estate in Fort Collins, served on the Board of Managers for 15 years, including serving two terms as Chair. He found serving on the board to be an excellent way to positively impact the MLS and ensure access to comprehensive data on a reliable interface.

For me, being an IRES Manager was one of the best activities I could have selected to not just be a better real estate broker and advocate for my clients, but a better managing broker and leader in my local community, region and the state,” said Chris. “It’s a great way to improve your professional practice while ensuring the system works to the benefit of all participants and stakeholders. Without exaggeration, I can say that serving on the Board at IRES indelibly altered my career, professional development and my life for the better… way, way better.”
